Our First Preview Gathering

After several months of gathering as a core group in homes, a lot of prayer and a few Sunday worship gatherings in homes as well, we were ready for our first ‘preview gathering’ at the Squamish Adventure Centre. By ready we mean we felt that the Lord was directing us to step out in faith and do some practice runs at holding a Sunday worship gathering as a new church in Squamish.

We had no idea what to expect.

Preview services are an opportunity for family, friends and people interested to learn more about The Rock to come and join us as we gather together to worship God! Based on the size of our core group, we were reasonably sure that we would have lots of room in the Adventure Centre’s theatre.

Well, God decided to surprise us by bringing many guests to visit The Rock Church as well as a reporter from The Squamish Chief Newspaper who stayed throughout the morning and interviewed pastors Glenn & Matt after the service, as well as many of our guests. As we approached our start time of 10:00 am it was clear we would need to put out some extra folding chairs so that everyone would have a seat!

We were thankful and blessed to have Jana Perry with us to lead worship on that day. Jana attends Church on the Mountain in Whistler and is a big part of their worship ministry. Jana led us in a number of wonderful hymns, songs and choruses throughout our gathering.

For our first gathering we chose Genesis 1, In the Beginning GOD as our passage and message. It would seem to be fitting that we should start at the beginning of the Bible for our first preview service together. We will continue through chapters 2 & 3 of Genesis for our three preview gatherings which end on September 6th. Following that, we will, Lord willing, be holding our official launch gathering on Sunday, September 13th at the Squamish Adventure Centre Theatre.

Thank you so much to everyone who came and to those who served. It was a tremendous blessing, encouragement and exciting day for all of us at The Rock Church.
