In this week’s message podcast we continue our study of the the Gospel of Matthew from 6:19-34 and hear what Jesus has to say about wealth, security and worry.
Chapter 6 continues what can only be categorized as the greatest sermon ever preached, by anyone, at any time—The Sermon on the Mount and beginning with the Beatitudes in Chapter 5!
The religious legalists, leaders and elite of that day had taken the very Laws of God and adapted them to their liking and keeping and now Jesus turns his attention to warning about a materialistic focus that leads to anxiety regardless of whether one is rich or poor.

Well said.
I really enjoy your messages Glenn! The ministry that God is developing through you, your family and others, is just what Squamish needs.
“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” – 1 Timothy 6:10
“The inner essence of worship is the treasuring of God as infinitely valuable above everything. The outer forms of worship are the acts that show how much we treasure God. Therefore all of life is meant to be worship because God said whether you eat or drink or whatever you do – all of life – do it all to show how valuable the glory of God is to you (1 Corinthians 10:31). Money and things are a big part of life, and therefore God intends them to be a big part of worship – since all of life is to be worship. So the way you worship with your money and your possessions is to get them and use them and lose them in a way that shows how much you treasure God – not money.”
- John Piper
“Our Lord is pleased when we live in a way that reminds us of, and introduces others to, what’s truly the greatest pleasure and possession of life-our Lord Jesus.”
- Randy Alcorn
One of my favorite verses, and one that fits nicely with your message is: Matthew 13:44-46
“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid again; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls, and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.”
