The Christmas Story: Kids Tell It Best!

Sometimes the deepest and most profound stories in the Bible, those that fill us with wonder and awe, are best told by children. No wonder that in Matthew 18, in response to his disciples question about who would be the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven, Jesus called a small child to his side and replied, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”

Join us on Friday, December 24th to Celebrate our Christmas Eve Candlelight Service starting at 6:30 pm in the Eagle Eye Community Theatre at Howe Sound Secondary School.

Enjoy a great time for the whole family as we present the Christmas Story—The First Christmas and sing your favourite Christmas Carols.

Doors open at 6:00 pm for coffee, tea and refreshments. Come early for the best seating and our program will begin at 6:30 pm sharp!

The Rock’s Annual Fall Fest Video Now Online!

On Monday, October 31st, 2001 The Rock Church in Squamish, BC held it;’s 2nd Annual Community Fall Fest at the Easter Seals Camp on Government Rd. It was great night of family fun with an awesome BBQ dinner, Pie Contest, Pumpkin Carving, games for the kids and the now famous “Photo Booth,” plus campfire songs! Everyone is welcome to come so invite your family, friends and neighbours to dress up in a fun theme costume (Western for example—please no scary costumes) and enjoy great food, drinks, entertainment, fun games for the Kids with candy prizes—woohoo!

Stay for the Pumpkin carving contest, pie competition, cookie decorating, photo booth and stay warm under the outdoor Pavilion’s roof while singing songs around the roaring campfire!

Join us this Sunday, September 25th as we Celebrate our 2nd Anniversary as The Rock Church in Squamish.

Our Cafe will be open as usual at 9:30 AM and we’ll enjoy a great time of worship starting at 10:00 AM. After the service we’ll celebrate with a family picnic, games for the kids and floor hockey in the gym!

Our hope and prayer is to see everyone grow in their in faith in Christ! As we have been learning in Ephesians we are a Body with many members, we are the family of God, a community on mission with the Lord, a movement and we need the gospel and each other to grow!

Summer Day Camp & Party In The Park Video!

The week of August 8-12, 2011 will last in our memories for a long time. The Rock’s First Annual Day Camp, Vacation Bible School VBS for kids grades 1-5, was an awesome success. 50 kids came to camp and enjoyed a great week of fun and song. On Wednesday, August 10th we hosted our community with a Party In The Park in downtown Squamish where we served over 380 meals, enjoyed some great live music, a carnival for the kids and loads of family fun!

Our friends at Soma in Tacoma, WA were profiled in an awesome video that captures well their vision for living everyday as missionaries in their community and city. As we have seen the Lord blessing our Small Group Communities over the past year and a half, we see this video articulating very well where we hope to see the Lord take us as we live as missionaries, making Jesus known, here in Squamish. Men’s Retreat Video Online!

Our First Annual Men’s Retreat was held April 29-May 1st at Rockridge Canyon, YoungLife’s beautiful resort/retreat centre just a few km’s from Princeton, BC. Pastor Glenn was the speaker and 25 men and their teenage sons made the trip from The Rock! Here’s a short video highlight from the weekend—thanks to Darrell Koopmans!

Who Killed God?

Before we celebrate the risen Jesus Christ on Resurrection Sunday, we come together as a church to remember his bloody, sacrificial death on the cross on Good Friday. This “Good Friday” we will be presenting, for the first time in Squamish, a riveting short story, depicting the final hours of Jesus’ life.

We hope that you will join us to hear Jesus’ final words on the cross, “It is finished,” and then to celebrate together the last command that he left for his disciples, “Do this in remembrance of me!”

Friday, April 22nd at 7:00 PM, Eagle Eye Community Theatre in Howe Sound Secondary School. Doors and cafe open at 6:30 pm, seating is limited so come early for to reserve your seat!

Men’s Retreat @ Rockridge Canyon

Our First Annual Men’s Retreat is booked and, in partnership with Northview Community Church, it should be an awesome time.

The Retreat will be at Rockridge Canyon, YoungLife’s beautiful resort/retreat centre just a few km’s from Princeton, BC.

Cost for the event is $135.00 per male adult and $70.00 for teenage sons between the ages of 13 and 19. Car pools will be available so register early so that can figure out the drive.

An Animated Look at Education

Sir Ken Robinson, world-renowned education and creativity expert and recipient of the RSA’s Benjamin Franklin award, narrates this amazing animation about the history of our education system.

He demonstrates in powerful terms how the ‘system’ is failing the majority of our children, killing creativity and at the same time, inviting the medication of millions of primarily young boys who just can not sit still in school.

A must see for anyone who desires that their children achieve what they were created to do with their lives.

Christmas Eve Candle Light Service

On Friday, December 24th The Rock Celebrated our first Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at the Eagle Eye Community Theatre at Howe Sound Secondary School.

Everyone enjoyed a terrific program with our children presenting the Christmas Story in word, song and playing the many characters from that wonderful night in a stable 2010 years ago.

The Rock’s Nativity Float

For the second year in row, The Rock Church participated in Squamish’s Santa Claus Parade with a Nativity Float.

This year our team improved upon their impressive showing last year with another beautiful float, awesome costumes for the children who played the characters in the stable on the night our Lord was born and followed alongside by number of our church family handing out invitations to our Christmas Eve Candle Light service.

The parade began by the marina near the downtown waterfront and then made its way up 2nd Avenue and then turned to make its way along Cleveland and the largest crowd the parade has ever seen.

It appeared like most of Squamish was in attendance and their faces lit up as they saw our float and heard the children singing Christmas Carols to the music played by our worship team.

Santa Parade 2010

For the second year in a row, The Rock Church will be entering our Nativity Float into the Squamish Santa Claus Parade.

Join us this year on Friday, December 10th in downtown Squamish, as our children and young adults play the roles of all of those present when our Lord was born in Bethlehem.

Contact Carla Siemens for more information if you can help with the float or wish to participate as we follow behind the float handing out Advent Calendars for the kids and invitations to the December 24th Candle Light Service at Eagle Eye Community Theatre.

The Supremacy of Love

Join us this week as we resume our series in the Gospel of Matthew from verse 5:43-48 and hear what Jesus has to say about Loving your neighbour and hating your enemies.

Chapter 5 begins what can only be categorized as the greatest sermon ever preached, by anyone, at any time—The Sermon on the Mount and Beginning with the Beatitudes!

This week we move on to see how Jesus explains the last of 6 antithetical statements of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. The religious legalists, leaders and elite of that day had taken the very Laws of God and adapted them to their liking and keeping—Jesus first discusses the commandment on murder and surprises his audience even more with his teaching on adultery and the law regarding divorce, oaths, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. Now, it’s the conclusion of the chapter and—The Supremacy of Love!
