We are followers of the one true Jesus Christ, who love God, love our neighbours and love Squamish. We value Jesus above all, authenticity, creativity and generosity and seek to engage our culture with the amazing grace of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We don’t pretend to have our lives all together, but we do turn our lives over to an awesome God who does.</itunes:summary>

The first four chapters of Matthew’s Gospel have been the introduction to the King of the Jews, the Messiah, Jesus Christ into this world, his baptism by John, temptations in the wilderness and the calling of his first disciples.

Chapter 5 begins what can only be categorized as the greatest sermon ever preached, by anyone, at any time—The Sermon on the Mount and Beginning with the Beatitudes!

This week we will look at the 4th Beatitude and learn more about the character traits that true disciples of Christ must display. What do we hunger and thirst for every day? Is it the kind of righteousness that Jesus is talking about, or is it something else?

Join us for coffee and a time of fellowship starting at 9:30 am and for this week’s Worship gathering at 10:00 am.

As a church we have been studying the Gospel of Matthew and in the first 4 chapters two words by Jesus clearly stand out to anyone who has ears to hear—Follow Me! These words are those that his first disciples heard as they were tending their fishing nets along with their father.

The Bible says that “immediately” they left their nets and boats, their father, family and homes and followed Jesus. From that day forward they were his disciples and he began to fulfill his promise that he made to them when he called them. That promise was that he would, “make them fishers of men.” In other words he was saying that he would make them into disciple-makers.

The Gospel of Matthew ends with one of the most famous quotes from Jesus—The Great Commission. In 28:19-20 Jesus said,

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

This week we are thinking about the second message in our series called, Life’s Biggest Questions and the question, How Can We Know That There IS a God? If you weren’t there on Sunday you can listen to the podcast here.

To help get things started at Small Groups this week, here are a few questions for us to consider:

1. When you hear the word tolerence, what comes to mind? Intolerance?
2. What have been some of your experiences with the theories of Darwin and atheism?
3. What is your confidence level in talking with people with opposing world views?
4. What can you do to raise your confidence?
5. Which world view best explains our world and our human condition?
6. What does the world say about this? What should we say?

THE CLUES OF GOD—Discuss the following:
1. The Big Bang Mystery – Why is there something, rather than nothing?
2. How did it know we were coming?
3. The regularity of nature.

Read Mark 12:28-34

Have you ever asked the question, why are we here or what is the meaning of life or is there a God and life after death? Interestingly it seems that each new generation asks the same questions that the previous one asked. Why is that? Haven’t these questions all been answered once and for all?

Well, as it turns out, neither science, philosophy nor religion has been able to answer these questions to everyone’s satisfaction.

At The Rock Church we believe that there is no better time than the present to learn to talk about the big questions of life in more tolerant and respectful ways.

Welcome to KidsRock! Whether your kids have been involved since The Rock Church started or this Sunday will be your first time visiting us, we are thrilled to have them be a part of this ministry.

We would like to tell you about some things that will make you and your child’s experience at The Rock the best it can be.

We are offering great Bible stories and teaching the children Bible verses. The mission, or purpose, of The Rock Church’s KidsRock is to provide intentional opportunities for kids to get to know Jesus, not only as God, but also as their best friend.

We offer a complete program that will teach your children 3 basic truths that we learn from Luke 2:52:

“Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men”

So we want every kid to know and understand these three things: I need to make the wise choice (wisdom); I can trust God no matter what (faith); and I should treat others the way I want to be treated (friendship). All Sunday School lessons focus on at least one of the three basic concept areas from this verse (wisdom, faith, and friendship) in addition to “biblical” concepts (like God, Jesus, the Bible, the church, family, community, and self).

After calling his disciples and taking them briefly on their first road trip, Jesus now sees the crowd of people who are following and he goes to the highest point on a local mountain and begins to preach the message that will change the world of that day and the world that follows.

Join us for coffee and a time of fellowship starting at 9:30 am and for this week’s Worship gathering at 10:00 am.
