about mission san quintin

Mission San Quintin (MSQ) began as an outreach ministry of Saanich Baptist Church (SBC) in partnership with International Disciple Training (IDT), an organization based in Vicente Guerrero, Mexico. Through this ministry, SBC has built nineteen houses. They have supported and built relationships with a nearby church, rehab centres and a women’s transition house. For more than 10 years, numerous families and individuals have been assisted with shelter, nutrition and education through their outreach.

From this ministry, MSQ was conceived in the summer of 2012 and led by Directors Tom & Sue Card. Today (July 2016), Tom continues to lead this ministry after the loss of his dear wife Sue earlier this year, in partnership with the board, an assortment of SBC members and residents of the surrounding Victoria area. They work to build partnerships with the Mexican government and organizations in Mexico and in Canada. In partnership with SBC, and now a few churches from the BC Canada area, Mission San Quintin has built five houses and two community schools.

MSQ is determined to build relationships with the people of Vicente Guerrero by returning each year to the same area. Rather than dropping in supplies and leaving, teams return to previous building projects to assess if any repairs need to be made. They reunite with families and continue to build these connections. MSQ is not about hand-outs; it’s about relationships. It’s about serving together in community, those in need.

In October 2016, 9 members of The Rock Church joined a team from the Victoria area to build a two-room elementary school that was dedicated to the memory of Sue Card—Biblioteca Sue Card!

It is our hope and prayer that this will be the first of many partnerships with Mission San Quintin and the many ministries they partner with in Vicente Guerrero, Mexico.

In October 2017, 29 men and women from the Sea-to-Sky region—Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton, BC joined with The Rock Church here in Squamish, Saanich Baptist Church and Mission San Quintin to build two schools in Vincente Guerrero, Baja, Mexico for children from very poor families to attend Kindergarten and Grade 1.

In just 4 days from October 9th - 12th, 2017 we did it. Our team also taught women self-defense, as well as delivered food and personal effect bags to men and women who survive living in the local garbage dump. Check out our highlight video below of this year’s trip!
